May sound weird by my mx5 use to do this and it was due to having a smaller dry cell battery. Replaced it with a standard one and worked perfectly. Would also stall after accelerating hard sometimes.

It could be fuel pump?
Most cars that misfire top end of revs when cold is down to running to rich.
As long as it doesn't do it when warm then it isn't a major issue..
Also did you gap the spark plugs to correct gap?
what colour are the plug tips dude?

Moisture is a good place to start.
However if problem doesn't exist when hot it be fine..
Just take it easy when cold.
Report back if anything else needed fella
